GENERAL SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Derry Homegrown Farm & Artisan Market is a non-profit, local farmers market. The market takes place in Benson’s green space in Downtown Derry. Its annual season begins in early June and runs every Wednesday through the end of September. It has become a weekly, core community event and has helped bring a new life to Downtown Derry. Along the way, it was named the Best Farmers Market in NH by the Editors of Yankee Magazine in 2019. In 2018, the market ranked No. 2 in a state-wide WMUR poll. Derry Homegrown was also honored as a People’s Choice Winner for the Best Farmers Market in 2020.

The Market Manager serves as the face of the market and is a vital role in its continued success. The manager acts as the market’s ambassador with vendors, town officials, and the general public. The position requires approximately 7-10 hours per week, primarily on Wednesdays throughout the market season.
Summary of Essential Functions
A. Pre-Market (12:00 pm until 3:00 pm)

Oversee and direct the set-up of market vendors and guests (e.g. music, artist, communitarian/kids booths) utilizing the market map to inform above of vendor location or any changes.

Direct vehicles to effectively and efficiently unload, based on market layout and competing needs.

Assist vendors, musicians, and any featured guests booths with set up as needed (e.g. unloading, moving equipment and goods, setting up tents, answering questions).

Set up DHGFAM tent with tables and accessories, music/children’s tents, and chairs and umbrellas from storage unit.

Act as primary contact for vendors, abutting property owners, and Town officials during set-up, including checking messages and answering market phone.

Act as liaison, relaying vendor concerns, questions, and/or issues to the DHGFAM Board.

Other tasks as assigned by the Board.

B. During Market (3:00 pm until approximately 7:00 pm)

Supervise the DHGFAM booth during market.
-
Answer questions from market attendees on a variety of topics (e.g. bathrooms, hours, vendors, etc.).

Promote the market and dispense any raffle tickets.

Encourage attendees to sign up for emails, volunteer, etc.
-
Oversee any market changes due to weather/conditions (e.g. early breakdown, etc.) and ensure proper communication to vendors and attendees.

Monitor market phone and respond to calls.

Act as liaison, relaying vendor concerns, questions, and/or issues to the DHGFAM Board.

C. Post-Market (7:00 pm until approximately 7:30 pm)

Facilitate breakdown of market.

Direct vendors and vehicles to most effectively load out.

Break down DHGFAM tent and booth and music and children’s tents, and Market chairs and umbrellas, storing and packing up all items.

Assist vendors, musicians, and any featured guests (art/children’s) as needed.

Relay vendor concerns, questions, and/or issues to the DHGFAM board.
Job Specifications

Leadership, organizational, and strong interpersonal skills including both written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to troubleshot problems and improve upon the market experience for all.

Position requires some physical activity, including bending, reaching, lifting and carrying items.
